Following on from last year’s success in the Association of Illustrators Annual competition – Images 32, with ‘Moulin Rouge, Paris’, Paul Garland has again been named amongst the winners for the 2009 competition – Images 33.  This time with 4 separate pieces in the ‘Unpublished’ section.

‘Coke Bottle’ is a piece produced to show his conceptual skills to the Design and Advertising Industries.

‘Elton John’ is a piece conceived to highlight the simple yet effective conceptual poster work that Paul is capable of producing, and is amongst an ongoing series of Iconic celebrity portraits.

‘John Wayne’ is a piece produced for the publishing/advertising of a recently written biography and is again amongst the ongoing series of Iconic celebrity portraits.

‘Prick’ is one of a series of images produced by Paul by invitation for an upcoming Exhibition and Book in aid of testicular cancer titled ‘The Artful Todger: The Penis in Popular Culture.

Cricket Magazine Poetry
Suling Wang created illustrations recently for two poems in Cricket Magazine. Showing off her fabulous ability to render people of different cultures she created work for a story about a Japanese mother an daughter called "Snow Womans Daughter." The other is a poem by Langston Hughes with African American roots called "Reasons Why."

Johnny Yanok Named Spectrum Winner
Winners of the 14th annual Spectrum Awards, honoring SF&F art, were announced in Kansas City, Mo., March 10th, 2007. The winners were chosen by a panel of judges from more than 5,000 entries. In the category "Unpublished" Johnny Yanok garnerd the Silver Award for "Postmort-Mmmms" All of the winners will appear in Spectrum 14: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art, to be published by Underwood Books in October.
